Falling down the rabbit hole.

As you can see I'm very very distant from this blog now. If you'd like you can still find me fairly active on: www.blood-bloom.tumblr.com or www.blood-bloom-art.tumblr.com
I'm sorry, I can't keep up with all this blog stuff when I go to school full time trying to focus on my art and work as well.
Come follow me down the rabbit hole...

I'm thinking about eating my own heart.

These are the steps I took in order to get my piece "She's eating her strawberry heart" ready for the state fair. I thought I'd share more DIY stuff with you guys because I really enjoy easily transforming certain things into something beautiful.

Here are the materials you'll need:
  • cheap frame(I bought mine for $5.00 at Savers.)
  • spray paint
  • your artwork
  • wire
  • jewelry tools (wire cutters, etc.)
  • 2 small screws
  • acrylic paint
  • glue
Step 1: Select the piece of artwork you'd like to frame. If it fits the frame then great, but if it doesn't I'll show you how I made it work. (I bought my frame at a thrift store so I didn't exactly have the best selection to pick from.)

August 2012
As you can see the dimension of the frame is too wide for my piece.

Step 2: Take the the back, your artwork and the glass out of the frame. Lay down some newspaper in an area that's acceptable to get a little dirty and spray paint your frame in any color of your choice.

August 2012
I always like black.

Step 3: Now, for my piece I cut two strips out of the same paper I used for the painting, I painted them pink to match and then glued them on the back and cut them to fit exactly. The way I measured was using the glass or back of the frame. I then worked on my painting a little more, trying to match it as perfectly as possible. (These pictures were taken before I did that.)

August 2012

August 2012

Step 4: Once your frame is dry you can touch up any small mistakes with acrylic paint of the same color. Then wait until that's dry. Clean both sides of the glass and put everything back into the frame.

August 2012
Beautiful, isn't she?

Step 5: After this we had to have a wire going across the back in order to submit it into the state fair. I took some wire from the garage, not too thin or thick and easily bendable, and cut it to size, leaving some excess on both sides. I then folded about 4 inches over and twisted it, leaving a small hole for the screw. I screwed that end into the back of the frame and did the same thing to the other side.

I wish I had pictures to show, but unfortunately, I was running out of time at that moment. Here's the finished product with it's sad creator.

Little Rotting Beauty

I'm still working on the whole strawberry idea. I'm not sure if I'm just running around in circles right now or actually coming up with some genuinely creative ideas. Anyway, this piece is about choosing to let go of ones innocence. A little girl trying to be the woman that she is not, something promiscuous and flirty, naive and ignorant. On the surface though it is just a little rotting beauty trying not to eaten by the fruit flies.

I'm really looking forward to how this one turns out. I'm trying to better my technique when painting. Though it's quite difficult because most of it I teach myself.

Medusa

Sorry about the lack of posts on here. I'm actually still unsure about what to write.

Today was the first day of the tax-free holiday and I went to get my philtrum (otherwise known as a medusa ) pierced. It did hurt but I was expecting it to be worse than what it actually turned out to be. The trouble with me is the breathing for the most part. (I just tense up and forget to.)

And so, here it is...
August 2012

I got this done at Sachs in the Cottonwood mall by Scott Self(who also pierced my tragus and rook.).

Please help me.

Dear followers,
I need some help (in more ways than one) The State Fair submissions are coming up soon and I’m not exactly sure which piece to put in, What do you guys think?
Please view my artwork under the "Blood" tab, and leave me a comment or send me an e-mail. The only catch is that it must be created within the year. Tell me what piece of artwork of mine you think I should enter into the State Fair or simply which is your favorite, please and thank you.

Independence Day prtII

After shopping and the hike, we went to Gabriel's, a restaurant in Santa Fe, to eat. I ordered the enchiladas verduras, it was very delicious. I also love their lemonade. I dressed sort of like a pin-up for the 4th to show my spirit and because it makes me feel pretty and sassy. : ) That night we went to watch the fireworks and that concludes my 4th of July this year. I hope everyone who's reading this enjoyed theirs also.

Independence Day prt I

The 4th of July fell on a Wednesday but felt like a Saturday for me, which was quite enjoyable. We first went to Savers to go thrift shopping. There was a  30% off sale for members, not as good as their usual 50% off for everybody, but it's Savers, we had to go. I got less than usual but came out with some pretty cute things. After that we went past Santa Fe to go hiking somewhere in the Pecos wilderness, here's some shots from the "easy" hike. (It wasn't easy, far from it actually. 2 hours, breathing out of my mouth, sore and tired afterwards.)

July 2012
I thought this was pretty cool the way this branch was bent.

July 2012
The hike was pretty neat, at first. I'm not a huge fan of hiking and so as it went on I decided never to hike this type of trail again. I loved the trees and being in the wilderness, it's definitly not what I'm used to. I kind of wished though to see some sort of decaying animal, but sadly didn't come across any.

July 2012
I saw a lot of these trees that looked as though they had eyes, very cool.

July 2012

July 2012
There were also  quite a few trees with messages written from other hikers that have healed over like scars.

Oddly Obsessed

So as you may know I have this strange obsession with strawberries that began during early spring. I eat strawberry anything, strawberry lemonade Julius, strawberry waffles, strawberry cheesecake, fresh strawberry pie, the list goes on and on...
anyway I've decided to create a series of paintings, drawings and artworks all based off of this "earthly delight". I've already created three paintings, "Strawberry gashes forever", "Strawberry Dreams", and "She's eating her strawberry heart".
Here's a WIP(work in progress) of the one I'm working on currently...

I'm not sure of what exactly I'm going to title this one but I'm pretty excited about how it's turning out. That's probably the best wooden floor I've painted.

Blood-Bloom

So as you now see, I'm no longer CadaverCarousel but BloodBloom. I really like this name better because it better describes my thoughts and aestheics with myself as a person and through my art. I wanted, as I siad, something beautiful yet at the same time tainted.

I went through several very obvious changes but what I still haven't figured out is what my posts should consist of. I'd really like some help/advice from friends or followers. What do you think I should post more or less of on here? What would you enjoy seeing?

Please send me an e-mail or leave a comment, thank you.

Just some thoughts

I just wanted to share some of what's currently going on. I've been so very busy, like I've been saying continuously now for several months, but it's true. I'll try and share as much as I can within reasonable limits. I think this is really going to take a toll on my blog/blogs.

I'm actually thinking about changing a lot of things. I'm a person who gets very set in their ways but drastically changes a few things every now and then. I"m not to fond of the name CadaverCarousel anymore, it just doesn't seem to reflect who I am right now. I want something more delicate and beautiful yet still tainted. So I'll be changing my persona/name, probably my background, decorative elements, etc. I'm also thinking about what I should focus on posting more of in the future, which will probably be more art-based.

What would you like to see more of on any of my blogs? Do you have any recommendations? Please feel free to tell me.

Mother's Day

I know I haven't been very present here. I do apologize, I've been very busy these past few months and it looks as though there's no sign of slowing down. I'm so busy yet feel like I'm accomplishing very little or have very little to show for it.
Anyway, I have some updates for all of you. There have been a couple semi-eventful happenings in my almost non-existent life. Mothers day passed and for once I actually put effort into getting my mom something other than just signing a card. (sorry.) I made my "mama" a blizzard cake, the first one I made entirely by myself. The flavor is reindeer bites, one of her favorites, it has coconut, caramel and chocolate chunks in it.

May 2012
(Yes, I know it looks as though it says Hoppy instead of happy and I forgot the apostrophe in Mother's.)

The day before we went to a Thai restaurant called The Orchid to celebrate. I put my hair up in my first successful victory rolls and wore a cute jacket I bought years ago and never wore. I myself ordered the pineapple chicken which was as delicious as it looked. Everything we've tried there tastes good. I highly recommend it.

May 2012

I wish everyday was Mother's Day, it really should be. I love my mama. <3

Charles Sackville, 2nd Duke Of Dorset

Charles Sackville, 2nd Duke Of Dorset, Rosalba Carriera

Carriera began her career doing lace patterns and painting miniature portraits on ivory lids of snuffboxes before she started doing portraits like the one above. Her pastel portraits were so widely admired that  she was awarded honorary membership of Rome's Academy of Saint Luke of 1705. She was later admitted to the academies in Bologna and Florence. In 1720, she traveled to Paris, where she made a portrait of young Louis XV and was elected to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.

It's very hard for me to imagine that this is pastel. Everything I've done with pastel is much less detailed and finished looking. The way the fabric looks in this is amazing. Then again, back then they had better quality pastels that were more buttery and less chalky so it was easier to create such effects.

Strawberry gashes forever

About a week ago I finished a painting I titled "Strawberry gashes forever". Below is a picture of the painting itself and in a frame. I'm thinking about selling this one. I'm still not sure how to even start selling my stuff online, though I'd really like to sometime in the near future. This painting will probably only be available to purchase here in Albuquerque, NM.

I feel like I'm dying.

I dyed my hair red last august 2011 and it's been a natural bright looking red and a natural dark red ever since. Last night I decided to dye my hair an unnatural berry bright red. I also was curious as to how it'd look if I did my eyebrows as well. (I'm actually thinking about shaving them off completely in the future sometime. Notice my artwork*) So here I am with the dye sitting in my hair. I'll upload some pictures of how it turned out later.

April 2012

(Please excuse the weirdness that is my facial expression.)

*update* So it came out really bright at the top of course where my roots were and it gets darker the further it goes down, which is kind of nice, I like the gradiation from bright to dark. The eyebrows I was a little worried about but they actually look quite nice. This very bright red really brings out the pinks in my cheeks and lips I noticed, and there's not as much emphasis on my eyes.

Honey, I've got problems.

I've been very very busy with school recently, only eight days left though! So I've fallen behind on this years goals. I plan to make up for it later. For example, I'm writing on two "Honey artists" instead of one this month because I didn't have time to write one last month. So here's a bio I pulled off of CallowLily's website and some of her artwork along with a short paragraph of my personal thoughts.

http://cadavercarousel.blogspot.com/p/honey.html
(P.S. I usually just pull already made biographies off the artists website and add a few personal paragraphs as well. I do not claim any of their words as my own.)

Everything must end.

“It is important to look at death because it is a part of life. It is a sad thing, melancholic but romantic at the same time. It is the end of a cycle - everything has to end. The cycle of life is positive because it gives room for new things.”

Dark bloom

Last weekend I went antique shopping as you may know. My sister and I revisited some and also looked at a new one (new to us). There were a lot of really neat things at all of them. I only wish I had enough money to buy everything I wanted. The idea was brought to my attention from my mom that I could buy some antique frames for my artwork, so I'm really looking forward to doing that.

April 2012

I ended up buying a very adorable old black velvet hat with a veil and a pleated ribbon design in the back.

Mood swings

So over the weekend it was very warm weather, I wore t-shirts and shorts. Monday there was a cool and rainy afternoon and just yesterday it was in the 50s and raining/snowing. Today it's back to nice warm weather, short sleeves. It's funny and slightly annoying how dramatic the weather changes here.

 April 2012
Rain when I woke up yesterday morning...

April 2012
... turned quickly into snow by the time I left.

 April 2012
Puppy paw prints on the pavement.

What's even more annoying is how they'll close the schools when there's hardly any snow and then keep them open when we actually have a reasonable amount of snow. We probably got more snow yesterday than any other snow day during the winter.

She loved them like people.

Victorian Momento mori portrait with dolls.

I went antique shopping this weekend. I enjoy it so very much, unfortunately I was on a budget so I didn't buy anything yet but I have some things that I'll get when I obtain the amount of money needed. I was looking for stuff of the Victorian era, which I love so much. Does anybody have a favorite antique store in their hometown? What are your favorite things to shop for or that you've purchased?

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

March 2012

So this isn't very recent but I thought I'd share something. I love going to yard/garage sales and last summer I found this mirror at one. At the time I bought it, it was an ugly off white color with fake crackle-like lines going through it to make it look aged. I also love spray paint. So I spray painted it black and it looks amazing, new, fresh and stylish. it's one of my favorite things in my room. Almost anything can look better with a coating of paint.
I also found a set of ugly brass candle holders a while back and painted those black, it's astonishing how different things look with a simply a different color.

(I wish I had a before picture to show, but I'll keep that in mind for the next time I do something like this.)

Victorian fetish

March 2012

This is unknown human hair that my mom found for me in the drawer of my grandmas dresser. I plan to use it creatively in my artworks.

The Victorians used to love hair because it doesn't decay. They used it in jewelry and artwork as memento moris. I may write a post about the subject sometime in the future.

Where has my wisdom gone?

Today I had an appointment at 8:00am for the removal of my wisdom teeth. I was nervous about getting them removed because I was only going to get the numbing shots and hearing others stories about their experiences didn't make it much better.  At the consultation they told me they'd be easy to take out  but when making the appointment they said I had a slight impacted tooth and that it'd be better for me to get the anesthesia. I finally chickened out the day of and went with the anesthesia, which I was even more nervous about.

Surprisingly the experience was very quick and I could barely feel a thing. Also the anesthesia made me feel very comfortable and rested, it was really nice. They told me I'd have little to no memory but I can remember everything. I also got to keep my teeth!

March 2012

So now I'm icing my mouth and am on a diet of pudding, smoothies, and milkshakes, which is lucky for me because I work at Dairy Queen.

Virgin and Child

Virgin and Child, 1324-1339.

Mary holds Jesus in her left arm with her weight on her left leg creating a gothic S-sway pose. She originally wore a crown, she still holds a fleur-de-lis,(a heraldic symbol of royal France) which served as a reliquary container for strands of Mary's hair. The Christ Child reaches out to tenderly caress Marys cheek and holds an apple, a referance to Christ's role as the new Adam, whose sacrifice on the cross redeemed humanity from the first couple's fall into sin when Eve bit into the forbidden fruit.

The White Rabbit came again...

And again I was asleep, why can't it snow while I'm awake? Oh well, any day where the snow actually stays long enough for me to capture a photo of it is a good day to me. I'd just really enjoy a day where it snowed continuously throughout the day. Also, what a nice gift after Valentines day.

Wayward Victorian Girls

So last night a couple of friends and myself went to see Emilie Autumn at Launchpad. It was my first concert so I really didn't know what to expect. The stage was quite small but the upside was that it gave an intimate atmosphere. Emilie sounded great, even better than her recordings. She was there with three of her bloody crumpets, Naughty Veronica, Captain Maggot, and Blessed Contessa.

February 2012

Blessed Contessa, February 2012

They performed 4 O' clock, Art of Suicide, God Help Me, in which they had "tea time" and threw tea and pastries at the audience, I Know Where You Sleep, Dominant in which Naughty Veronica performed a burlesque-type dance with ostrich feather fans,  Let The Record Show, and Emilie gave us an encore "only because you know french" of thank God I'm Pretty. They also performed a couple new songs such as F.L.A.G., threw fire, and  played "the rat game".

Captain Maggot and Naughty Veronica, February 2012

Emilie Autumn, February 2012

They all had beautiful costumes and makeup, playful props, and very entertaining performances. Each of the bloody crumpets had their individual personality and they made the audience feel as though they were a part of the show. It was very enjoyable and visually delightful. I loved it.

(P.S. the photos turned out kind of abstract and strange because I wasn't using flash.)

Unicorn is found at the fountain.

Unicorn is Found at the Fountain, 1495-1505.

I've really been enjoying my Art History classes. I was never a huge fan of history, unless the teacher made it interesting, so I thought art history would be similar. It's actually more about the art than the history, the story behind it is more just information you pick up by learning about each art piece. Currently we're in the 1500s.

I found this tapestry pretty and interesting, I never knew there was so much symbolism in everyday objects. I'm also amazed that it's a tapestry, it looks like a painting or drawing. I'd have never guessed it to be needlework.

The subject of the piece of art is the unicorn, a mythical horse-like animal with a single long twisted horn. They're said to be supernaturally swift and can only be captured by a virgin, to whom it came willingly. The unicorn became a symbol of the Incarnation (Christ is the unicorn captured by the Virgin Mary) and a metaphor for romantic love. The capture an killing of the unicorn also symbolizes Christ's death on the cross.

Lions represent valor, faith, courage, and mercy. The stag is a resurrection symbol (shedding and regrowing it's antlers). Rabbits are signs of fertility and dogs fidelity. there's a strong theme of marriage, strawberries are a common symbol of sexual love, pansy means remembrance, and periwinkle is a cure for spiteful feelings and jealousy.

This is the title.

I'm not really sure what to write about. I want to succeed in my resolution though, I refuse to fail the first month of the new year. So here's a little update I guess.
I already asked about this on my Tumblr and realized why not on here? Anyway, my question is: Would any of my followers be interested in my photography? I was thinking about creating a new page, and just to warn you, it'd be amateur stuff like photos I've put on here already. I mostly take pictures (art wise) of sunsets/rises, clouds, trees, and dead animals.
Any sort of comments would be appreciated, here or on Tumblr. thank you.

*I've modified my resolution, I'm going to post about 5 things each month, this way I won't be causing myself unnessecary stress.*

Show me your teeth.

Hyperdontia is the condition of having supernumerary teeth, or teeth which appear in addition to the regular number of teeth.
I find this beautiful and vastly interesting.
Sorry I haven't really been keeping up too much with my resolution, to be more active on here with better posts. January just hasn't been the month for me.
